Worship Services

Worship is central to the life of every Christian. It is when we come together as the family of God to recognize each other and our God, to listen for God's word to us and then walk out again into the world to continue our worship in the service of loving God with our lives.

Here at Silver Spring, we offer three worship services every Sunday morning. There is a Traditional service held at both 8:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. in the Meeting House. This is a more formal service with familar hymns and choral anthems, a traditional sermon, and responsive liturgy. A distinctly different service called The Gathering at Silver Spring is held at 9:00 a.m. in the Gym. This is a more informal service with contemporary music, a more discussion style sermon, and a participation-based response time.

Here is a summary of our Sunday morning schedule:

    8:00 - 8:50 a.m.         Traditional Service
    9:00 - 9:50 a.m.         The Gathering at Silver Spring
    10:15 - 11:00 a.m.      Christian Education - all ages
    9:45 - 10:15 a.m.        Children's Choir
    11:15 - 12:15 p.m.      Second Traditional Service

Beginnning June 18, our worship schedule changes to the following for the summer months:

    9:00 a.m.                     The Gathering

    10:15 a.m.                   Traditional Service

In all services, the reading and hearing of God's Word is central to our worship. Everything that we do–music, prayers, the sermons–are offered so that we can open our ears and our hearts to what God is saying to us.

Music is very important to us, and our choirs and musicians work diligently to assist in leading us through songs and hymns so that the focus remains on praising God. In addition, special music is presented throughout the year.

The Gathering

Christian Ed

On Wednesday evenings during Advent and Lent we offer opportunities to slow down, meditate, and worship from 7:00-7:30 p.m. The Advent services usually focus around music, while the Lenten services are more meditative.

Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month in our Traditional services, and on the third Sunday of the month for The Gathering. It is also offered on other special days throughout the year, i.e. Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, etc. All who attend worship are invited to participate in Communion, regardless of denomination or church affiliation.
