Children in Worship

One of the challenging times for young children attending church is when they have grown too old for a nursery setting, but are not yet able to sit through and understand a traditional hour long church service. Silver Spring offers an alternative to those children ages four through six who may need more activity and flexibility.

Ten to fifteen minutes into the service, the children come forward for a Time with Children. At the end of their special message, they may either return to their seats, or move as a group to the lower level of the Christian Education building for Children in Worship. This group, led by our Christian Education Director, Barbara Chalfont, spends time singing, reading Bible stories, doing crafts and being introduced to some of the traditional components of the worship service.

At the conclusion of the church service, parents are asked to walk down to the classroom to pick up their child. If you are visiting our church and your child seems a bit reluctant to go downstairs alone, you are more than welcome to walk them down to Children and Worship yourself and stay with them until they are comfortable being left as part of this group.
