Welcome Guests

First time at Silver Spring?

We gather for worship every Sunday at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Services are approximately one hour long. We offer Christian Education classes for all ages at 10:00 a.m. For the youngest believers - infants through age 3 - our nursery is open from 8:50 a.m. through noon.

Our worship service at 9:00 takes place in the Meiting House - the large, ivy covered building with the two front doors. When you enter either door, ushers will welcome you in and guide you to your seats. Handicap areas are also available. Inside you'll find people of all ages, dressed in everything from jeans to suits and ties for the men and dresses with matching hats for the ladies. Most people come in "business casual," but all are welcome to come as you are, dressed in a manner that helps you focus on worship without being a distraction to others. Children are a welcome; midway through the service is "Time With Our Children," where young children are welcome to join a short lesson up front. After this short lesson the children are guided by adults to Children in Worship. After worship, join us in the Gathering Place for coffee, hot chocolate, and occasionally cake or other goodies. The Gathering Place is the large glass-enclosed area adjacent to the Meiting House, and the walkway between the buildings is covered in case of inclement weather.

Our second worship service at 11:00 a.m. is called The Gathering at Silver Spring, which meets in the Gym. You can enter through the white double doors farthest from the Meeting House and closest to the parking lot entered directly off of Silver Spring Road. This service is more informal. Inside, you will find all ages. Dress is casual, and there is space for people to get up and move around when they need to do so. Families worship together, but there are also single people, and people without children. The service begins with singing led by our worship band. Lyrics are projected on a screen. The message, based on Scripture, is presented in a non-pressured but interactive style. Some people choose to say things. Often, there is the use of video, art, and other media to illustrate the point. Time is provided weekly to respond to God as you choose. You can celebrate the Lord's Supper, make an offering, pray silently or with another, contribute to a creative project, share some conversations with others, or enjoy some refreshments. The service ends, as it began, with singing led by our worship band.

The Christian Education hour for all ages takes place at 10:00 a.m. in the Christian Education Building. Children ages 4 through 3th Grade meet downstairs in Rooms 111/112. The 4th and 5th grade classes meet in Room 105, Middle School (grades 6-8) meet in Room 202, and Senior High (grades 9-12) meet in Room 104 downstairs. Adult classes meet in various locations. See our class offerings.
