Leadership
Session
Each Presbyterian congregation has a governing body of persons, elected from their active membership, as Elders, serving a three-year term. This group of Elders makes up the Session. The Session has the responsibility for overseeing the life of a particular church.
Silver Spring's Session is made up of 18 Elders, the Associate Pastor, and the Pastor. The Pastor is the Moderator of the Session.
The Session is organized into various committees, most of which are open to members and friends of the congregation. Through these committees, the Session keeps the congregation focused on the mission of Christian "worship, fellowship, and discipleship."
Board of Deacons
Deacons are elected from the active members of the congregation, serving a three-year term. The principle focus of Silver Spring's Deacons is a ministry of compassion and kindness directed to members of the congregation and folks living in the immediate community.
Silver Spring's Board of Deacons is made up of 39 Deacons. The youth deacons are elected to one-year terms. The Associate Pastor serves as staff advisor to the Deacons.
Deacons at Silver Spring have the basic duty of serving those members of the church residing in a geographical "Zone". In order to bring the personal caring ministry of the church to the people, the congregation has been divided into 19 zones consisting of church families who live in the same general area. Two Deacons serve the zone as a team to share the responsibility of meeting the needs of the members of the zone.
Trustees
Silver Spring has a body of persons elected from their active membership to serve as Trustees. Twelve Trustees each serve a three-year term. The principle focus of Silver Spring's Trustees is the care and maintenance of the property and buildings of Silver Spring. Trustees serve as the directors of the church corporation recognized by the State of Pennsylvania.
